Board supporting a culture of continuous improvement

How do you support the board in their role modelling a culture of continuous improvement?   Please share your own, or  your groups, lessons learned.

One strategy I use is to try to make competency 7 from the SLQS visible for trustees by connecting my work to their governance efforts. When I provide a schedule of reports the board will receive for the year, I share how it is constructed, why they are receiving the reports, connect the timing of the reports to their scheduled governance functions throughout the year, etc. Then, as reports are presented at board meetings throughout the year, I revisit their purpose and connect them to specific governance functions identified in their board policy re: the role of the board.
