Clarity of Role and Expectation

Submitted: Jul 17, 2023 (01:34 am)

Synthesized input from colleagues from past governance learning opportunities identified clarity of role and expectations as important to address in supporting effective governance.  4 sub themes of this theme are:  support and empower trustees, clarify boundaries and roles, build relationships through active listening and foster a culture of continuous improvement.   Based on the sub theme you identify as most important, please share how you will take action.   What conditions do you need to establish to ensure success and move forward on the action?

Our primary condition is "Build relationships through active listening." This requires establishment of the key relationship of the Board Chair and the Superintendent first to understand each stakeholder group's (SLT and Board) responsibilities. A measure of the effectiveness of this strategy would be decreased time where the board is in closed sessions. A lagging set of measures would be the school-level assurance results.
