Share your story about how have you created a culture of “being”, as a system education leader, that nurtures effective relationships with Indigenous communities?

As a system leader, I have modeled my intentions to honour indigenous ways of being by actively seeking out and engaging in the learning of the past, and the present. This is informing my understanding of the need to go deeper in exploring opportunities to embed cultural teachings, the medicine wheel, and experiential opportunities within my work from my platform of division staff, and student wellness within the division. For a long time I have felt that a way to honour the peoples who first resided on the land with which our schools now sit would be to create information placards to be mounted in front of our buildings to share some of the histories of this particular land, with an identification of the treaty, language and nations , and our gratitude for our relationship.
