There are a host of risks, barriers and biases, but in our discussion we felt all three could be categorized under a more general concept of "fear". Ultimately we need to mitigate a plethora of fear-related issues in order to move forward. Whether we are referring to teachers in the classroom, all the way to the trustees who govern our division, the only way to combat fear is with knowledge and experience. Therefore, we feel that in order to mitigate the fear we need to overtly discuss AI at all levels, from Board Meetings to Principal Meetings to School Staff Meetings, and all PD opportunities offered to staff. Providing opportunities to use/experience the use goes a long way to mitigate the fears. Use the AI to reword some phrasing that might be off-putting to a particular parent group. Or use AI to help revise a speech to a group of people. Knowledge and experience goes a long way to reduce the fear.
In regards to the ethical considerations, we felt that Dr. Sarah Eaton's presentation did a fantastic job describing all of the ethical considerations.
