We find that there is a need for positivity amidst the current climate. With a positive culture and welcoming environment, students feel welcome and cared for in their classrooms and school communities, which contributes to optimal learning. To this effect we recently did a book study with our senior and school administration on “Deliberate Optimism: Reclaiming the Joy in Education” by Debbie Silver, Jack C. Berckemeyer, and Judith Baener. We are continuing the learning by having principals share a monthly optimism challenge with staff. Sharing has been remarkably open and it is supporting positive reflection and conversation within the division.
