CASS President’s Message
It has been nearly two years since the College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS) Act came into force and CASS was granted professional status, and I am very pleased to share some updates and exciting news with you. CASS has been working diligently to ensure that we uphold our mission to build system leadership excellence and ensure quality leadership, teaching, and learning for all students in Alberta.
I would like to acknowledge our Board for their incredible dedication in advancing CASS as a professional organization. Their hard work is truly paying off, and we can proudly say that CASS is the professional voice of Alberta’s system education leaders. To all our members, thank you for continuing to support CASS’ longstanding history of excellence. Your commitment to improving student learning remains at the heart of everything we do.
The work of the CASS Board isn’t just about checking boxes; it’s about creating a solid framework that supports and guides our professional organization. Our zone structure allows the five local zones to meet regularly, discuss CASS-related topics, and provide invaluable feedback to the Board through zone directors. This arrangement ensures that we maintain strength and cohesiveness at both local and provincial levels through intentional succession planning and member engagement.
And here’s the big news: CASS is launching the much anticipated Continuing Education Program (CEP) this September! We’re so excited about this new initiative and can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on our members and their professional growth. We also look forward to welcoming a public member to the Board in the near future, which will bring fresh perspectives and further enhance our organization.
We’re committed to continuous learning and collaboration, especially around the Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard (SLQS) and Leadership Quality Standard (LQS). Our three annual CASS conferences, the annual CASS First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Gathering, and a variety of other learning opportunities and resources are all geared towards supporting our members’ professional development. With their feedback and the Board’s support, we’re dedicated to serving the learning needs of our members and helping them create the conditions for student excellence within each school division.
On behalf of the CASS Board of Directors, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all CASS members, past and present, for their contributions to educational excellence in our province. For those new to the organization, welcome! We wish you all the best in your roles as system education leaders within Alberta.
Here’s to a year of growth, new beginnings, and continued excellence. And don’t forget to have some fun along the way!
Yours in education,
Dr. Clint Moroziuk
