Dare to Lead – The Heart of Daring Leadership
- Articulate the definition of a leader as someone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people or processes and has the courage to develop that potential.
- Learn that daring leadership requires four sets of skills that can be learned:
-
- rumbling with vulnerability – In Order to rumble we must be able to let go, to be vulnerable means- Uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure.
- living into our values – we look at the world with two core values, do you know what yours are and why you make the decisions you make?
- braving trust – Braving is an acronym for seven elements that we will dig deep into: Boundaries, Reliability, Accountability, Vault, Integrity, Nonjudgement, and Generosity
- learning to rise – When you’re a daring leader you will fall, and learning to rise gives you a skill set to rise back up and Dare to Lead.
- We will begin practicing how to ask for what you need, set boundaries, and reach out for support.
- Determine your call to courage as a leader.
Presented by Michael McMann and Natalie Morris
Michael McMann has over 25 years in the Alberta education system and grew up in rural Alberta. He has a passion for research and moving the dial on every kid in their learning. Mike is a Dare to Lead facilitator and has valued spending time with Brené Brown. Mike believes training with Brené Brown and the Dare to Lead learning has had the single biggest impact on him personally and professionally. The district has seen a major decline in requirement for student discipline and a more connected staff through this training.
Natalie Morris is the Supervisor of Learning Services – Connectivity for Fort Vermillion School Division. She grew up in northern Alberta and has spent over 20 years in education. Natalie is passionate about connection and the belief that everyone is doing the best they know how. She has been a principal in numerous schools before taking on a district role.
“WiL-ful” Conversations & Lessons Learned…Now What?
Being willful describes someone who possesses dedication or perseverance. It means that the individual is determined, driven, or decisive.
After taking the Dare to Lead challenge, we will address how we can grow and nurture the characteristics that help us to mitigate the identified challenges. Based on recent research and dialogue that has occurred at recent Nerve Book study sessions, round table discussions will address common factors such as balance, grit & grace, facing adversity, mentors vs. sponsors, imposter syndrome, and more. Each table will be hosted by a CASS leader, who will facilitate the conversation.
Led by certified Dare to Lead facilitator, Superintendent Mike McMann, this will be a primer to a two ½ day session of the Dare to Lead training being held in the spring of 2023.
