Embracing Wahkotamowin: Join the 2025 Indigenous Education Gathering
CASS is honoured to announce the 2025 First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Education Gathering, themed “Wahkotamowin for Student Success.” Scheduled from April 30 to May 2, 2025, at the Wyndham Hotel in Edmonton, located on Treaty 6 Territory, this event invites educators, leaders, and community members to explore the profound concept of Wahkotamowin – emphasizing the interconnectedness of all relationships within the natural world. Wahkotamowin, a Cree term, reflects the relationships we hold with people, animals, plants, and all elements of our environment. By understanding and nurturing these connections, we strengthen our bond with the Creator and enrich our individual journeys. This year’s Education Gathering aims to deepen participants’ understanding of these relationships and their significance in fostering student success.
This year’s Education Gathering will feature the following learning components:
- Keynote Sessions: Engage with esteemed Elders, Knowledge Carriers, and Indigenous educators as they share insights on integrating Wahkotamowin into educational practices.
- Workshops and Breakout Sessions: Participate in interactive sessions focusing on practical applications of Indigenous knowledge, cultural teachings, and land-based learning.
- Cultural Ceremonies: Experience traditional ceremonies and teachings that honour the rich diversity of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures.
Registration is available on the Education Gathering website.
