MISSION:
CASS supports building system education leadership excellence to ensure optimal learning for all students.
LEGISLATED RESPONSIBILITIES
CASS is a statutory corporation established under the College of Alberta School Superintendents Act and regulated by the expectations of this legislation, complementary bylaw, and policy provisions. CASS’s governing legislation sets our Success Indicators, including advancing education in Alberta, improving the profession and system leadership through continuing education, research, and publication, increasing public understanding of education and leadership, and cooperating with related organizations.
WHAT CASS REGULATES AND SUPPORTS
Membership and Registration: We review and approve applications for different classes of membership and maintain an accurate registry of members.
Competency and Professional Learning: Regulated members must complete 30 Continuing Education Program (CEP) credits annually and five CEP courses within five years, to meet provincial practice standards.
Bylaws and Transparency: We establish, maintain, and enforce rules, bylaws, and competency standards, which are published publicly in our annual report.
System Education Leadership: We uphold the Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) and the Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard (SLQS) to help system education leaders meet standards and improve outcomes for students.
Strategic Framework
Each year, the CASS Board of Directors revisits the existing Strategic Plan to assess progress and update the plan to align with current member objectives and priorities.
