In a significant step towards expanding opportunities for Alberta students to explore diverse career pathways, CASS and The Consortium have received a conditional grant to enhance professional learning in career education. This initiative aims to equip educators and system education leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver robust Career and Technology Studies (CTS), Career and Technology Foundations (CTF), and new career education curricula.
Professional learning is a cornerstone of effective career education programming, which helps students navigate the transition from high school to post-secondary education or the workforce. Aligned with the Ministry of Education’s mandate to expand career education opportunities, the grant will fund several key objectives:
- expanding access to professional learning for teachers to strengthen CTS and CTF programs
- supporting the implementation of new curricula through targeted professional learning that integrates career education effectively
- building the capacity of teachers and system education leaders to guide students in exploring career pathways
- improving students’ preparedness for transitions to various careers and post-secondary training
- enhancing the availability and sustainability of career education programs for students in Grades 7 to 12
To inform the development of these professional learning opportunities, CASS and The Consortium are conducting a province-wide needs assessment from June 10 to 30, 2025. The assessment will gather insights to identify key focus areas that support teachers’ and education leaders’ professional learning needs in career education and CTS.
System education leaders are encouraged to participate in the survey and promote it within their school authorities to school-based leaders and career education teachers. The survey will also be distributed through The Consortium to reach educators and school leaders across the province. The survey is available in both English and French.
The effectiveness of our professional learning response will depend on strong survey participation. Thank you for your assistance in promoting the completion of this survey throughout your school authority.
