Background Information
Since 2022, Alberta Education has been rolling out a massive overhaul of the K–12 curriculum based on a new framework that focuses on literacy, numeracy, and foundational knowledge. Instead of a traditional approach, the Ministry determined that a new curriculum organized by division (K–3, 4–6, 7–9, 10–12) would provide a fresh process.
School authorities have been tasked with managing the pacing of implementation and allocating professional learning and development to support their teachers. In addition, government-approved resources were not provided for new curricula, so school authorities needed to develop or acquire appropriate resources to support the curriculum in each subject area.
The province has developed several resources in its Curriculum Implementation Hub to support school authorities as they undertake each round of implementation.
A new Learn Alberta website has also been developed to support teachers.
